What is a Peppol access point?
An access point is the link between your invoicing and the Peppol network. Without one you cannot send or receive Peppol invoices. Here is what to know.
What does an access point do?
An access point is a provider certified by OpenPeppol to send and receive documents over the network. For you it does three things:
- it registers your business with a Peppol ID in the address directory;
- it sends your invoices and credit notes to your customer's access point;
- it receives the invoices others send to you.
You and your customer do not need the same provider. Any certified access point can talk to any other. How the network fits together is explained in what is Peppol?
Why do you need one?
A structured e-invoice is not sent by email. Only an access point can validate a file against Peppol BIS Billing 3.0, look up the recipient and deliver it safely. In Belgium, VAT-registered businesses must send and be able to receive invoices this way since 2026, see e-invoicing in Belgium.
How do you choose an access point?
- Certification. Pick a provider that is a certified OpenPeppol access point.
- Sending and receiving. You need both. Ask whether purchase invoices are in the price.
- Price. Subscription or per document, and whether there is a free tier. See what Peppol costs.
- Link to your webshop. Uploading by hand is fine for a few invoices. For more, you want your shop or invoicing software to send automatically.
- Support. A provider in your language and time zone helps when something goes wrong.
- Switching. You can change provider later, but your registration in the address directory has to move with you. Ask how that works.
How PeppolKit handles it
PeppolKit works with certified access points (Recommand and Peppyrus), so you do not have to arrange anything with the network itself. Your orders become invoices, which go over Peppol to your business customers. See the pricing; start free with 10 invoices a month.
